I noted in last night's blog that the area off Island Beach State Park was overdue on big bass that are normally trolled in 60-foot depths there by late April. There were no reports from Raritan Bay today, but blues moved in yesterday and should keep anglers busy while waitng out stripers.
If the stripers do show up we can go after them as well so bring a jigging pole as well along with your bottom fish rod if you have one. either way if the stripers show we can catch both bottom fish and bass.
Atlantic Highlands stripe bass and bluefish May 8 08 May 2017 Capt. Tom Not many people showed up to go fishing today but we made the morning trip. In the morning we did not catch any stripe bass but caught bluefish.
There was more good news on big bass from the Canyon Runner out of Point Pleasant as Captains Phil Dulanie and Deane Lambros trolled four large stripers plus five big blues last Thursday off Long Branch. There was a good shot of blues in Raritan Bay this morning as both the Sea Hunter and the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands got into them before the change of tide brought in muddy waters that turned the choppers off.
IT LOOKS LIKE THE WIND IS GOING TO DIE DOWN AND THE WEATHER LOOKS GOOD FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS SO WE WILL BE HEADED OUT FOR COD AND LING ON TUES. COME ON DOWN AND CATCH SOME FISH AND SOME NICE SPRING WEATHER.
We had a little lull in the middle of the day with just a few Blues each move. The fishing is not fast and furious mostly its one on and wait a little but we did have two and three on together a few times.
