    For possibly the last time, the N. J. Legislature is taking up bills to set new striped bass regulations in the state. Current law requires that this be done by legislation in the case of striped bass, but the new bills change that so the Marine Fisheries Council can set the regulations without further delay.

    We fished a few drops today and while a couple were slow, we had a really good bite on a third and the guys boxed their limit of fish to 7 pounds with the Barn's own Ancient Mariner Skip M. high hook with 7 or 8 keepers and the rest of the guys getting in on the action, as well. Fishing was slow early, but moving around a bit really helped as we found some nice pockets of fish at times and finished with a limit of sea bass to 5 pounds hitting the box and the average size to the fish being quite nice.

    Saturday's Hi-Mar Striper Club Fishing Flea Market got a break in the weather, and drew a good crowd looking for bargains and taking in the seminars. The next Hi-Mar event is their annual Spring Striped bass Tournament which is set for Saturday, May 16 from 5 30 a. m. to 4 p. m.

    They left at 4 30 a. m. in order to get in some bottom fishing that produced small trevally, reef fish, cuda, whitetip sharks, and a 6-foot gray reef shark before switching to trolling. The World Fishing Outdoor Expo will be running at Rockland Community College in Suffern, N. Y. from March 5 to 8, and the biggest show for saltwater anglers in the northeast, the Somerset Saltwater Expo, is set for March 20-22.

    Picked some Ling here and there along with some small Cod but nothing great. Hopefully we will see more Cod show up over the weekend.

    Pretty dull weekend fishing for the most part, beautiful weather but sluggish action. Picked at mostly Cod with a few Ling and Blackfish mixed in.

    However, the Ocean Exploerer from Belmar took advantage of a window of decent weather this weekend to fish offshore on Saturday. Some of those fine-eating fish were big enough to fillet.
